What Is Confidence?
Confidence is the feeling that you have faith in yourself and your abilities. If you’re a confident person you believe that you have the skills and abilities to fulfil tasks that face you and you feel positive about facing everyday challenges. Many people lack confidence which prevents them from taking opportunities and facing new challenges.
Even those who appear to be very confident have ups and downs, which is a completely normal part of life. We’re bound to be faced with challenges that we find scary or that we don’t think we are capable to deal with, but confidence is what allows us to rise to these challenges and develop our skills and abilities. As with most important issues, talking to someone about it does help, so if you feel that you’re lacking confidence, talk to someone who can help boost your confidence and offer you advice.
How to be more confident:
- Take new challenges. By doing things that scare you, you allow yourself to develop as a person and reassure yourself of your abilities.
- Have a ‘can-do’ attitude. When you have the urge to say “I can’t do it” tell yourself “I can do it.” You can do anything you put your mind to
- Don’t doubt yourself. As soon as you start to doubt your capabilities, you become less confident. Having faith in yourself and what you can do, will allow you to become more confident.
- Don’t give up! It’s completely normal to have ups and downs and being able to deal with these will allow you to be more confident and make it easier for yourself when you have down days.
